چکیده
We give a deterministic algorithm to construct a graph with no loops (a tree or a forest) whose vertices are the points of a d-dimensional stationary Poisson process S ⊂ R d. The algorithm is independent of the origin of coordinates. We show that (1) the graph has one topological end —that is, from any point there is exactly one infinite self-avoiding path; (2) the graph has a unique connected component if d = 2 and d = 3 (a tree) and it has infinitely many components if d ≥ 4 (a forest); (3) in d = 2 and d = 3 we construct a bijection between the points of the Poisson process and Z using the preorder-traversal algorithm. To construct the graph we interpret each point in S as a space-time point (x, r) ∈ R d−1 × R. Then a (d − 1) dimensional random walk in continuous time continuous space starts at site x at time r. The first jump of the walk is to point x

متن کاملAlternating kinetics of annihilating random walks near a free interface
The kinetics of annihilating random walks in one dimension, with the half-line x > 0 initially filled, is investigated. The survival probability of the nth particle from the interface exhibits power-law decay, Sn(t) ∼ t−αn , with αn ≈ 0.225 for n = 1 and all odd values of n; for all n even, a faster decay with αn ≈ 0.865 is observed. From consideration of the eventual survival probability in a ...

SNe Ia are thought to be exploding white dwarfs in binary systems. The most likely type of progenitor system (Branch et al. 1995; see also Iben & Tutukov 1984) is a C-O white dwarf accreting H/He-rich gas from a companion, either from its wind or through Roche lobe overflow. Coalescing pairs of C-O white dwarfs are also possible, while accreting sub-Chandrasekhar-mass white dwarfs are less like...
متن کاملGravity driven current during the coalescence of two sessile drops
Coalescence of liquid drops is critical in many phenomena such as emulsion stability, inkjet printing, and coating applications. For sessile drops on a solid surface, the coalescence process is more complicated than the coalescence of drops suspended in a fluid medium as a result of the coupling of the contact line motions to the fluid flow. In this paper, we use video microscopy to track the e...
متن کاملThe End of the Lines for OX 169 : No Binary Broad - Line Region
We show that unusual Balmer emission line profiles of the quasar OX 169, frequently described as either self-absorbed or double peaked, are actually neither. The effect is an illusion resulting from two coincidences. First, the forbidden lines are quite strong and broad. Consequently, the [N II] λ6583 line and the associated narrow-line component of Hα present the appearance of twin Hα peaks. S...
